Pose.com// Think of it as Instagram meets Pinterest. Awesome right? The idea is to take a photo of your outfit, upload it through their mobile app, tag it with all the brands and clothes you’re wearing, and people can comment and like your “Pose” and follow you. You can follow others and let real live people inspire your fashion instead of models and ads. I really love this idea (it’s pretty much a fashion blogger’s dream!) and can’t wait to use it more (I only have 2 not so good poses up so far).
The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood // This is my April Book Club book and it’s amazing. It’s set in the near future—a dystopian America that has been overthrown by an oppressive regime that strips women of their rights. The main character Offred (she doesn’t even have a name anymore—she is just referred to as belonging to “Fred”) has only one purpose in life—to have babies.
I started reading this book a couple weeks ago, and have had a really hard time putting it down. I love Atwood’s writing style—very daydreamy and stream of consciousness at times. She exposes little bits and pieces of the story at a time which really draws me in. The story is heartbreaking. It has reminded me that I don’t have to live like Offred. I have rights—I can vote for the people who will expand women’s rights and not treat us as second class citizens. Every women should read this book—every feminist MUST read this book. (A Note on the Image I used: I really love this illustration of Offred but I’m not sure what the source is. If you choose to read the review on this blog, beware there are spoilers.)
Brazos album Phosphorescent Blues// Brazos is a project by Austin musician Martin Crane. I don’t have much info beyond that. I found the song Day Glo (below) off the album Phosphorescent Blues and have fallen in love with the band’s sound. I’m bummed that it seems to have been a one off. The band hasn’t produced anything since 2009.
