A couple weeks ago I had the enormous privilage of attending Noa Azoulay-Sclater’s Artist Workshop in San Diego FOR FREE. Yes, free. Being the generous and inspired soul she is, Noa offered this workshop for donation. I jumped at the chance (obviously), and was so excited when I got the email saying I got in. I’m going to now try to find words to communicate the amazingness of those 2 days.
The first day was all talk, questions & answers, and lounging by the pool. Noa shared her story, process and the philosophy of creativity. We talked about how to turn a break-down into a break-through, and to “follow your bliss”. To choose only a handful of things to give a shit about and let the rest go. And it’s important to have to have a sense of humor, and know when you need to take a break. In short, we got into some “deep shit”.
Everything we talked about tugged at my heartstrings. I felt inspired and empowered. That evening I read over my notes again, letting it seep deep into my soul. Thinking about how these truths would change me and my work from here on out. What my next steps were, and how to get there.
The second day revolved around shooting. Since I’ve only been shooting (digital) for a year, it was fascinating to watch these photographers in action. I asked a lot of questions and got some great feedback about film and vintage cameras (of which I have quite a few). More pool time, more amazing food by Gjelina’s, and more heartfelt sharing from Noa and the rest. We were also privileged with Chloe Aftel’s guidence on all things Polaroid, and Anne Sage’s wisdom around social media.
Overall, I had a blast, made new friends and decided to take a deep look at my work, my goals, and what I really want to do going forward. These 2 days of intense thinking, questioning, and sun bathing re-energized me and is helping me focus on what’s really important. I’m not there yet, but it’s really exciting to think about where I’m headed.
Much love to Noa and the girls. I’m keeping track of you all and can’t wait to see what you do in the future! XO

It’s so special to be able to reindulge in this awesome experience through the eyes of others. I can’t wait to post my own perspective (just waiting on approval from Noa for the Sarah images). Yay!
