I have really been loving my experiments with film. It’s refreshing to compose your shot and not look at it right away, and I always get super nervous and excited with I go pick up my prints. I wanted to share some of my favorite shots from the Fourth of July week. I used 2 film cameras—my dad’s old Canon TLb, and a not so old Canon EOS Rebel Gii I got at a garage sale.
In just a few weeks of shooting film, I already understand photography so much better! But even having said that, I’m glad I started with digital. It was so valuable for me to see exactly what my mistakes were so I could fix them. Now that I know what I’m doing I can be more risky and shoot from my heart!
I’m so lucky to have both of these great cameras to play with. Now I have to figure out what their personalities are and the right shooting situations for each.
Is anyone else just starting to break into the world of film? If you’ve already gone through it, how was your experience? How did you start?

I love film! It’s hard to fully understand photography unless you know what it’s like to shoot in film. Your next step is the darkroom! If you don’t have access to a darkroom, there are so many ways to make prints with the sun. Photography is the best!
Yay! I’m so glad you’re doing this. Your pics came out great!
Aw thanks Teresa!
Digital photography has definitely changed our world- so it’s crazy to look at film shots and to see how the little imperfections add up to something beautiful that can’t be reproduced with digital. Great shots- I look forward to seeing more and more of your images as you experiment!
Not to keep commenting, “Gorgeous photos,” but I can’t help it! You make me want to dig out my old film cameras and start playing!
