I’m leaving for Salt Lake City next Tuesday! I can’t believe Alt Summit is already here. When planning for a conference like this, I always take time to consider the most important things that will be traveling around with me from panel to lunch to keynote, to after party. The contents of my bag need to be light weight, functional, and look snazzy. That’s a lot to ask for. Here’s how I’m breaking it down:
Tote // No flimsy canvas bag this time. Bring in the big guns and go for durable. You’re going to be living out of this sucker for 8+ hours a day. But make sure it’s as chic as you are.
Nail Color // No manicure lasts forever. Bring a bottle along for those last minute touch ups. It’s so small and won’t add any weight to your bag.
Hand Creme // Back and forth to the bathroom can do a number on your hands. You’ll be meeting lots of people and exchanging handshakes. Make sure yours is pleasantly soft.
Balm // The air is super day in Utah, not to mention being stuck in a hotel all day. Get that smile ready with a moisturizing balm.
Refillable Water Bottle // Probably one of the most over looked accessories is your water bottle. You need to stay hydrated through those panels and running back and forth to the drinking fountain isn’t going to cut it. Make sure you choose a glass bottle for the planet’s sake.
Bobbies // Keep fly-aways at bay, and change up your look with these little guys. They take no room and can add so much.
Notebook & Pens // Obvious? Yes. But make sure you’ve got enough pages in your notebook, or maybe start a new one just for the conference. Oh and always have a back up pen or pencil just in case you run out of ink, break your lead, or meet a friend who needs one.
Business Card Keeper // So important. You’re going to be exchanging cards with everyone and their mother. Keep them organized or else you’ll end up with cards in every pocket you own.
iPad // Last year I brought a laptop to Alt. It was definitely useful, but oh so heavy. This year I’ll be bringing my iPad. Now, I’m not a huge tablet fan, but I do think this is the perfect place to use it. If you don’t have one, I would just stick to your smart phone and a notebook.
Smart phone // Again, this goes without saying. Tweet, post, email, share, and Instagram your heart out. Embrace technology and watch it take you to new heights.
