I love Christmas music. I’ll listen to it way longer than I really should. But there’s so much nostalgia surrounding those songs. Over the years I’ve curated the Ultimate Christmas playlist in the past, but this year I’ve been listening to Spotify’s radio version of my playlist. It’s pretty great, and has exposed me to some real holiday gems. If you have Spotify, I recommend tuning to my playlist, and hitting the Start Radio button. Enjoy!

And these are some of my favorite holiday pins this year… because, why not?

No. 1   //   No. 2   //   No. 3   //   No. 4   //   No. 5   //   No. 6   //   No. 7

Sorry I don’t have great sources for some of these. Isn’t tumblr just so annoying?

I was inspired to create an actually scary Halloween mix tape. You won’t find Monster Mash or Werewolf Bar Mitzvah on this playlist… instead these songs might make the hair on the back of your neck stand up. I had a lot of fun putting this mix together and I’ve been listening to it all week. I hope you enjoy it too!

Mix Tape // Girls

I’ve been working on a mix tape of some of my favorite popular songs by female artists. Now these picks are all recent favorites. All time favorite lady musicians is a whole other mix tape entirely. Until then, enjoy this rockin’ mix tape. I personally can’t stop listening to it.

If I need to focus and get work done, I find myself turning to a few artists that really get me into the zone. I usually have to put my headphones in because these particular artists can drive Matt crazy… especially because I keep them on loop. For me I concentrate best when my brain isn’t distracted by new songs, so tried and true music is best. Here are some of my favorites when the deadline is looming. If you’re a regular reader this list won’t be much of a surprise.

1. Billy Joel // This man is a genius. Put his whole collection on shuffle and you’ll hear one major hit after another. I especially love listening to Billy Joel when I’m cleaning or cooking. It’s so upbeat.

2. Agnes Obel // This was a golden find on the radio one morning and I’ve been listening ever since. Agnes Obel’s haunting piano and soulful lyrics are just beautiful. Sounds especially wonderful on a gloomy morning with a cup of tea.

3. Death Cab for Cutie // Not much to explain here. One of my favorite bands of all time. I think I know every word ever and I routinely reference lyrics in casual conversation. I might have a problem.

4. Laura Veirs // I’m not sure how I stumbled on Laura Veirs a couple years ago but I keep Laura Veirs and Saltbreakers on repeat. Constantly turning to this lady’s enormous talent.

5. Ingrid Michaelson // I’ve been listening to this girl from the beginning. It’s so wonderful to grow with an artist. I can turn on some of her older stuff and be transported right back to a certain time in my life.

6. John Mayer // Again, I’ve been a huge fan from day 1. Yes, he can be kind of a mess, but his music transcends the personal stuff. Consistently making music that just gets me.

7. Neko Case // My dad actually gave me my first Neko Case album. Well, actually I stole it from him. He’s got pretty eclectic taste in music, but on Neko Case we definitely agree. This lady just amazes me. Her songwriting is on another level.

8. The Weepies // Probably in the most heavy rotation of all of these artists, and it drives Matt crazy. This duo is just the perfect music for me to concentrate to. Genuine, mellow, tender melodies. Nothing better.

Now I want to know, who do you listen to while you work? I need more music y’all!

A new mix tape in tribute to the summer that won’t quit. With songs like “Too Darn Hot” and “Cruel Summer” this playlist will help you work out all those complicated love/hate feelings about the end of summer and beginning of fall. Enjoy!

Happy Friday the 13th! It’s been a long week… Lots of work. I have barely had time to take care of myself—pulling 12+ hour work days. But the weekend is here! I plan on cleaning the house and hanging out with some dear friends. Hope you’re able to relax this weekend too.

Here are 5 things I found and loved this week:

100 -KM Chinese Traffic Jam Enters Day 9 // For the past 6 work days I’ve been driving to Culver City from my house in North Hollywood for work. I leave at 9am and sit in traffic for an hour, and then do it again when I leave. It’s exhausting and wastes so much of my day. So glad I only have to do it every once in a while.

Miley Cyrus covers Dolly // We want this Miley back! Love this cover.

Inspired by Black + White // I’ve been seeing a lot of bold black and white around and really love it. Don’t get me wrong, I love color… but the simple, graphic, minimal combination is refreshing. Check out this Flickr stream from Tiny Wild Things to see what I mean.

Skillshare // I’ve been looking into taking one of these classes. There are so many that look good! Have you ever taken one? Any recommendations?

How to Measure Yourself for Online Shopping // Stumbled across this helpful guide form Lauren Conrad about how to measure yourself for shopping online. Good to know!

There are so many new music releases out right now, I had to make sure you knew about a few of my favorites.

Neko Case // The Worse Things Get The More I Fight, The More I Fight, The More I Love You

I’ve been listening to Neko Case for many many years now and I was super excited about this new release. She really gets vulnerable in this new album and exposes some of her past struggles. It’s a beautiful, soulful album that will take some more listens to fully appreciate I think. Favorite Track: Night Still Comes

John Mayer // Paradise Valley

A perfect follow up to Born and Raised. These songs feel like just a continuation of that story, not like a separate album. I still like old John Mayer better… I haven’t fully embraced this new sound. But that doesn’t mean it’s not good. Favorite Track: Wildfire

Lucy Schwartz // Timekeeper

This one is BRAND new—I think it came out yesterday. This album is has a more mature sound than Lucy’s previous efforts—more raw, and less sweet. I haven’t listened to it too much, but I do like it. She is such a talented songwriter. You can tell that each song came from a very personal place. Favorite Track: Turn Your Light On Me

It’s been a weird, intense week. 4 day weeks always mess me up. I love the long weekend, but I feel like I’m behind on everything come Tuesday. M left for NYC yesterday morning, and I was up for 24 hours working on a crazy project deadline. Still working on it actually… and probably will be all weekend. But I really can’t complain. I love what I do, and with M out of the house, it’s a perfect time to hunker down with Bub and get stuff done!

(taken at the laundromat at 11pm on Wednesday…. one of those weeks)

Here are 5 things I found and loved this week:

Clementine Daily // A new women focused blog from some of the coolest girls on the web! I’m excited to follow along with this new site and see what it has to offer.

Blurred Lines Parody // The real “Blurred Lines” is such a fun, catchy song, but I was so disappointed when I saw the music video. This is brilliant parody of both the song and the original music video. More of this please!

Our maps are wrong // This blew me away when I watched this during my West Wing marathon a few months ago. I love that it’s going around the internet again.

Nom Nom Paleo // My go to Paleo Blog. I’ve made so many recipes from here already! The blogger, Michelle also has a cookbook and an ipad app.

The Lonely Island – Semicolon // I stumbled across this yesterday and had a good grammar nerd laugh.

Hello everyone, this is Margaux from Harmony Creative Studio. This past week was finally moving day for my husband and I – only 16 months after getting married! And while he is mostly concerned with our kitchen, I have been given free reign over our office/guest bedroom. Since we just moved in to a MUCH larger space, and $$$ is being spent elsewhere, I am going to be putting several projects together over the next month to finish this new room with some pop! while saving some green by doing some simple DIY’s:

– Simple IKEA Hacks: Spray painting the ‘Vittsjo’ laptop desk and bookcase gold, as seen here (insert link: http://www.apartmenttherapy.com/the-ikea-vittsjo-5-ways-183720) over on Apartment Therapy. Visit the treasure throve over at IKEA Hackers for more awesome ways to trick out that simple Swedish stuff.

– No-Paint Walls: The optimist in me thinks that very soon we’re going to have to turn this into a nursery, so for right now I think some fun patterns and a faux bulletin board made from washi tape are easy, no commitment way to go!  See some washi wall inspiration here on our Pinterest page.

– Statement Necklace Display: There is a walk-in closet attached to the office that I have annexed for all my shoes, accessories and dresses. On the tiny wall between it and the door to the hallway,  I’m going to place some fun knobs or painted hooks here to display all my best baubles. Here is a great simple DIY for attaching knobs straight to your walls if you’re interested in doing the same!

Last but not least, a fun music mix for either moving or DIY projects, enjoy! <3 MX
