My bridal shower is coming up in a couple weeks! I’m beyond excited for some girl time with the women closest to me. We’ve kicked up the planning into high-gear making crafting lists, seating charts, and menus. I know I probably shouldn’t be so involved in this, but I just can’t help myself. Wherever there’s a party, I want to be involved. I just get so much joy out of it, I kind of forget that it’s for me.

Here’s the inspiration board for the bridal shower. I’m actually not that much of a “pink person”, but this time, it just seemed right. And gold… always, gold.

Urban Apartment //

Right after I found H&M’s home line, I stumbled across Urban Outfitter’s Apartment line (available in the US)! And wow. So much “mid-century” furniture, native and geometric prints, turquoise, and metal… I’m in heaven! It’s super cheap (which means it probably won’t last) but also means you can afford to cycle things out.

And that raises a great question. Do you splurge on a few good pieces that you can hand down to your kids? Or do you prefer to buy cheap and buy often? For the most part, I think I’m a quantity over quality kinda girl. I buy and purge seasonally, saving up for one or two big purchases. What about you?

So much has happened in the last 3 weeks it seems that our cruise to Mexico was months ago. It’s helpful to look at these photos and remember how relaxing that trip was now that we’re in full throttle packing and moving craziness. Timing is funny huh? Had I known I would be unemployed I never would have spent the money on a vacation. But it was the perfect way to clear my mind, spend uninterrupted time with M, and decide on my next move.

I brought along my trusty Nikon DSLR as well as my dad’s old Canon and a roll of expired 400 film. Unfortunately the old film tore as I was winding it, so I only got half the roll back. It’s too bad because I really love the look of those photos (scroll to the bottom).

It’s interesting to notice the types of things I’m drawn to take pictures of. Lots of food, and bright colors and also when things are grouped together. Do you find that your photos have a consistent theme too?

Since M and I have both lived on our own for a while, we have plenty of furniture to bring into our new home. But some key elements are missing, and some items need an upgrade. We have been shopping and making wishlists and I’m happy to say things are coming together! That white pendent lamp below? Now hanging in our dining room. That Orla Kiely bedding? Well, I haven’t pulled the trigger yet, but I’m close! M really wants an Eames lounge chair like the one below. That’s further down the list, but I’d love to have one too!

All this dreaming and planning is nice, but I just wish we could get in the space and start decorating already! One more week of packing… one more week…

We picked up a Mexican blanket while in Ensenada and thought it was the perfect piece to design the room around. With dark yellows, greens and burnt oranges we’re going to use it as a rug in our new living room. We picked out bold yellow and dark gray paint but after the paint was on the walls, I started to second guess our decision… The yellow accent wall was really bright, and the gray chair rail turned muddy. But there’s no turning back now—we’re going with it.

(sorry for the terrible cell phone picture…)

I’m determined to pull the room together with pattern and texture. We have original hardwood floors with uneven dark spots that give it lots of character and the rest of the room is bright white. There’s beautiful natural light that streams in all day so with some artwork on the walls and some fabric, the room will soften right up.

The feel we’re going for is natural and neutral with bold yellow accents, graphic and native patterns and modern furniture. The colors below will be perfect for fall/winter, and then we’ll freshen everything up come spring. So, what do you think!?

Dorm Design //

I never lived on campus, and looking back I kinda wish that I had. Sure the dorms are tiny and you have no privacy, but it’s a once in a lifetime experience full of new friends and life-long memories. If I was to do it all again, I’d take a few colorful and stylish pieces with me to freshen up the boring old dormitories.

Did you live on campus? What was your dorm like?

Best Of Mexico

Aug 14, 2012

It’s been a while since I did a color post, and after last week I’ve been thinking a lot about mint. I’ve always loved this color. It’s cool and refreshing, and can either be bright and vibrant, or pastel and subtle. Besides, mint makes me think of ice cream and mojitos—and that’s never a bad thing!

Tell me, are you lovin’ mint as much as I am?

Color blocking is so popular, it’s moved outside the fashion world and is all over the web now too. There’s really no such thing as “the fold” now that users would rather scroll than click. Because of that we’re seeing really long pages on websites that use blocks of color to breaks up the content and focuses the users eye.

I personally love this trend. It’s fresh and modern and definitely makes a static web page more exciting. What do you think?
