It’s felt like summer for quite a while here in LA, but it officially starts on Friday. The kids are out of school and hanging around our apartment complex during the day, we went through 2 boxes of popsicles this weekend, and I got sunburned on Sunday, so it’s officially summer in my book. Here are some tunes to get you outside and enjoying the sunshine.

Just for fun, check out last year’s Summer Lovin’ Mix Tape! It’s still pretty good if I do say so myself…

From now on Friday posts will be more than just an update on my weekend plans… I’m going to give you some ways to waste time! Here are 5 things I found and loved this week…

We walked to the subway from our house, took it to Union Station and walked to dinner in Olvera Street.

Colourcode – I played with this site for hours when I discovered it. Holy wow… Click the icon in the upper left corner, and you can create some really beautiful color palettes. Book mark this for the next project you do. You’ll thank me later.

Babylon Light – These light fixtures are incredible. I had one of those, why didn’t I think of that? moments… I would love to see if someone could do a cheap DIY for this. Any takers?

Ladybug plays with sprinkles – Seriously people, this is just about the most adorable thing in the world.

& Other Stories – Found this beautiful site the other day. It’s not the best as far as getting me to buy something (kinda confusing) but I scrolled through the homepage in awe for a good hour.

The Summery Serape – I’m obsessed with this idea. We’re going to the Long Beach flea on Sunday, and I really hope I can score A. a vintage serape for cheap and/or B. a stool that needs a make-over. Wish me luck!

I have been craving icy popsicles like no other, so I’ve scoured the internet to bring you a round up of 20 pops that are sure to delight and satisfy.

Back in college my friend and I thought we were so clever when we made “gourmet” popsicles using fresh fruit and coconut milk… This list right here would have blown us away—sweet corn, rose petals, cheesecake, figs—the list goes on… take a look for yourself!

I think the first ones I’m going to have to try are the Red Wine Fudgesicles…. Holy YUM!

Which ones sound good to you?

Apricot Rice Pudding Pops   //   Coconut Mango Creamsicles   //   Mint Chocolate Cheesecake Pops   //   “Mounds” Ice Cream Bars   //   Creamy Chocolate Fudgesicles   //   Fig, Vanilla & Sour Cream Pops   //   Roasted Sweet Corn Pops   //   Chocolate Dipped Banana Pops   //   Blackberry Lime Cheesecake Pops   //   Blueberry Cheesecake Pops   //   Firecracker Pops   //   Chocolate Coconut Rum Pops   //   Red Wine Fudgesicles   //   Invisible Cookie Dough Pops   //   Banana Fudge Popsicles   //   Avocado Lime Popsicles   //   Watermelon Mojito Pops   //   Striped Ice Pops   //   Prosecco-Rose Petal Pops   //   Honeydew Mint Ice Pops

During the rest of the year I don’t wear too much make-up, but in the summer I hardly wear any. Even when I go out at night I keep it as simple and natural as possible. I really love the bronzed healthy glow my skin gets in hot weather, so why cover it up?!

That being said, one of my favorite things to do is pick up new cheap beauty products from the drugstore, and lately I’ve found up some great ones! You can buy all of this (except the Pink body spray and maybe the Pixi nail polish) for under $10 at any local drugstore.

Victoria’s Secret Pink Spring Break Body Mist in Jasmine Lime 8.4 oz for $12 // Such a long name, but this body spray smells amazing. I picked up the 2.4 oz on sale for $8, but I couldn’t find it online. I tossed it in my gym bag but frequently pull it out for a spray in the morning. It’s such a refreshing, bright scent.

Pixi  Coral Cabana Nail Polish for $8 // This was a gift from a dear friend. We are nail polish freaks and always gift each other new colors for birthdays and holidays. This color is super neon coral, which is awesome, and also has kind of a semi-gloss/semi-matte finish. It’s hard to explain, but it looks super cool.

Maybelline Dream Bouncy Blush in Coffee Cake for $8 // I think this was my favorite purchase. I picked this up when I forgot my makeup on a trip out of town. The texture is weirdly bouncy and creamy, but goes on like powder. The Coffee Cake color is a perfect natural bronze on me. I’ve been wearing it everyday.

Maybelline Full N’ Soft Mascara in Black for $5.50 // If you’re looking for a good cheap mascara, this is it. I have been wearing this off and on since high school. It can be a bit clumpy, so make sure you blot or comb it out.

Revlon Color Burst Lip Butter in Tutti Frutti for $6.50 // This lipstick is no joke, bright orange. I bought it out of curiosity and actually love it. Maybe it’s just my coloring—coral seems to look good on me, but I know it’s not for everyone. I usually apply it very lightly and it doesn’t get too dried out.

Hawaiian Tropic Silk Hydration SPF 12 for $8 // I bought this last year and used it all up, I need to buy some more. I always have a broad range of SPFs, starting around 30 at the beginning of the summer and working my way down to this one at 12. I love that this it smells like coconuts and goes on like lotion.

Hey people, it’s unofficially summer! You know what that means: crop tops, bright colors, cold drinks and SUNNIES! Warby Parker (the ultimate cool glasses company) is launching a new collection—Ocean Avenue.

They gave me a little sneak-peek and I immediately picked out my two favorites—the Orange Fizz and the Ginger Lemonade—delicious! Of course I had to design the perfect outfits to match each pair, and then find the perfect drinks… take a look.

Big thanks to Warby Parker for initiating this fun post! Love you guys.

With all this hot weather we’ve been having, I’m starting to get used to what will be my reality for the next 4 months. Along with the high temperatures and long sunny days, Summer also brings along popsicles, pool parties, shorts, and all things bring and colorful. All together I guess it’s not so bad. Here are some things I’m wishing for this summer.

No. 1   //   No. 2   //   No. 3   //   No. 4   //   No. 5   //   No. 6   //   No. 7   //   No. 8

Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? // I picked up this book right before we were heading to the airport in Pittsburgh. Mindy is hilarious, smart and so ambitious. I look up to women like that, and Mindy is no exception. It’s a really great book so far. I can relate to a lot of her experiences growing up. It’s also a fairly quick read. So if you’re looking for something light for an upcoming vacation, or maybe a gift for a little cousin, I definitely recommend.

Midlake // I love the radio feature on Spotify. That’s how I came across Midlake, my new favorite band. Indie folk/rock never sounded so good. A little bit Bon Iver, a little bit Band of Horses, and then something all their own. My favorite album so far is their 2006 release Trials of Van Occupanther mainly because I can’t get enough of the first track, Roscoe.

Indian Summer // It’s been HOT in LA this whole week. I was freezing (in a good way) in the east coast the week before. I’m so over this summer and desperately want to wear boots and sweaters. Come ON! Let’s get some rain, fog, crisp air already. Anyone with me?

Happy Friday + Blognic Recap

Happy Friday everyone! I co-hosted a blogger meet up (with Kelly from Studio DIY and Sarah from Very Sarie) last weekend called Blognic (Blogger Picnic, get it?) and it turned out fabulous. Amanda Jean from Jean and Gene Creative (you may remember this little design project) took these gorgeous photos while our blogger friends came out to enjoy each other, and some delicious snacks, under a big tree in Griffith Park.

A huge thank you to our sponsor Garnish for providing forks and to-go boxes.

Our Kelly made the Blognic bunting as well as the picnic blanket we raffled off (Amanda was our big winner on that one). And because no blogger event would be complete without a craft, everyone brought their own notebook and we decorated them with washi tape, stamps, markers, punches, etc. Oh and yes, those are specialty Blognic water bottles, designed by our very own Sarah! She also did the invite and the cutest stickers for the to-go boxes.

Thanks to all of you who came out for Blognic! If you missed it, don’t worry we’re planning another get-together in October. Email Kelly[at]studiodiy[dot]com to be put on the list, or friend me on Facebook and I’ll add you to our group.

Here’s a list of the fabulous LA Bloggers you should know about:

Well I’m setting sail this afternoon for my trip. Considering what the past week and a half have been, this could not have been planned for a better time. Funny how life works out like that… Anyway, there will still be daily posts so make sure to check back often. I however will have no connection until we get back on Friday. Have a lovely week! ¡Arriba!

(My legs look ghostly white in this instagram pic… I’ll be much more brown when I get back!)

So our friend Amanda is taking off for Mexico soon. I’d be jealous except that I just got back from the Riviera Maya in Mexico! (You can be jealous of both of us now.)

Amanda asked me to do a Mexico post for all of you in honor of her vacation, and since I haven’t edited a single photo from my trip yet, I thought it would be great to give her some packing ideas for her trip! I took along similar versions of most of these things, but some I just wish I would have brought along.

Woven Fedora: I’m addicted to mine. (So much so that I bought a second one last year after I left the original one hanging on a hook in an LAX bathroom stall.) Not only does it keep your face shielded from those powerful rays, it’s great to have along to throw over beach hair. Because let’s face it. You’re on vacation in Mexico, you don’t want to spend ANY time doing your hair. That doesn’t mean you can’t still look cute though!

White linen pants: I always take a pair with me to a tropical locale. They’re comfortable, breezy, and can easily go from beach to dinner to drinks, which makes them a great multi-tasker in your bag.

Rash guard: Ok, this is something I wish I would have had. The water was nice and warm, but we spent a lot of time snorkeling and by the end of the trip my boyfriend and I both wished we would have had one as a little added sun protection on our backs. This striped one from J Crew is probably the most stylish one I’ve ever seen. (Most are a little too “sporty” for my taste.)

Drapey Tank: This tank is a great coral color for the tropics, packs and travels well, and is easy to throw over a bathing suit for a quick trip into town or an impromptu beach cover up.

Colorscience Sunforgettable: LOVE this stuff. It’s powdered sunscreen and you can brush it on your face throughout the day over or under makeup. It’s waterproof, works immediately (unlike lotions) and is actually good for acne prone skin (that’s me) because it’s loaded with zinc. It is pricey though, and also hard to get even coverage on large areas of skin (like backs.) That’s why I used it mostly on my face.

Pareo wrap: An absolute must have for any beach vacation. It’s a beach coverup, a dress, a wrap and so much more depending on how you tie it up. I’m really drawn to the bright ikat pattern on this one.

Oversized sunglasses: The sun is so bright in Mexico, not just any pair of glasses will do! Oversize ones seem to block out just a few more rays.

Iphone Drisuit: Ok people, this was hands down THE best thing I brought along. Underwater photos and videos with your phone is pretty rad, and the quality of the photos is stunning. It was also nice to have on the beach as extra water and sand protection. Yes, I was nervous when I took the first plunge with it, but it worked brilliantly!

Intelligent Nutrients lip balm: This is on the list because it’s something I always have in my bag- traveling or not. It’s more expensive than most lip balms, but after you use it, you’ll understand why. Nothing else compares. It really is the best. And traveling on planes always dries me out a bit, so it’s a good thing to have stashed in your carry on as well as being a good quencher after a day in the hot sun and salt water.

Backpack: This is the first trip that I took a canvas backpack with me, and it’s going to be my standard gear from now on. It’s incredibly utilitarian as you explore new cities, but you don’t have to sacrifice style with one like this.

Sun Visor: Yes, I know I already have a hat on the list, but having a visor came in super handy too. I have long hair, so it’s almost always up off my neck when I’m in the heat. A visor not only keeps your head cool while giving you a little sun relief, it also lets you keep your hair wrapped up on your head at the same time. I picked this one because the slight trucker hat styling keeps it from going old lady on the golf course.

Hope you have an awesome trip Amanda- We’ll miss you!
